Paris Saint-Germain vs Real Madrid
Competition – UEFA Champions League
Stadium – Parc des Princes
Date: 18th September 2019
Kick-off time – 20:00 GMT

Two of the top five in the betting to win the 2019-20 Champions League meet on Group A’s match-day one – and Real Madrid are backed to strike an early blow against their main qualification rivals.

With Club Brugge and Galatasaray the other clubs in this pool, it is hardly a ‘group of death’ because the two favourites will be expected to advance comfortably. But a win for either of the other duo in their early kick-off would raise the stakes slightly at the Parc des Princes.

Although both Real and PSG exited at the round-of-16 stage last season despite winning away from home in their respective ties, their recent Champions League records are in complete contrast. Real, of course, have lifted the trophy four times in the past six seasons, whereas PSG simply cannot get past the quarter-finals despite their huge financial resources.

In terms of players here, several big names are definitely missing and others could be. PSG have Neymar suspended and Kylian Mbappe injured, with injury doubts over Edinson Cavani and Julian Draxler. Real captain Sergio Ramos is also serving a ban along with Nacho, while Isco and Luka Modric are battling to be fit and Marco Asensio is out long-term.

Aside from a defeat at Rennes, PSG have started the season in typically dominant domestic form and Real are unbeaten, although they have not been particularly convincing in any of their last three games and scraped a narrow success at home to Levante on Saturday.

However, Los Blancos manager Zinedine Zidane has a remarkable record in the Champions League, having won it in all of his three campaigns in charge of the club, and his side are backed to start putting last season’s disappointment behind them by winning in Paris.
